In December 2010, the popular K-pop band Co-ed School decided to form sub-groups, one of which included female members Lee Soomi, Heo Chanmi, Ryo Hyoyung, Jin Hyewon, and new addition Seo Eungyo. This unit was named 5dolls, and they made their debut with the release of two promotional videos featuring Jay Park in January 2011 called "Lip Stains" and "I Mean You." Their first mini album was then released in February 2011, followed by their debut performance on M! Countdown. Despite some criticism for lip-syncing during live performances, 5dolls continued to release music and videos, with their second mini-album "Time to Play" dropping in May 2011.
After a controversy involving Soomi, Chanmi, and Eungyo, the group underwent some changes, welcoming new members and even adopting a new name, F-ve Dolls. They continued to release music, with their first digital single "Since 1971" coming out in July 2013, followed by the mini-album "First Love" in September of the same year. However, in November 2014, F-ve Dolls disbanded, with the official confirmation coming in March 2015. Despite this, former member Cho Seunghee went on to re-debut with new group DIA in September 2015.
