Dreamcatcher is a dynamic seven-member girl group currently signed under Dreamcatcher Company, formerly known as Happyface Entertainment. They burst onto the K-pop scene on January 13, 2017, with their debut single "Nightmare". Originally known as MINX, the group consisted of members JiU, SuA, Siyeon, Yoohyeon, and Dami, and made their debut back in 2014 with the single album "Why Did You Come to My Home?". In a surprising move on November 16, Happyface Entertainment announced that the group would be disbanding and re-debuting under the name Dreamcatcher, with the addition of two new members: Handong and Gahyeon. The group's name is inspired by the Native American artifact used to ward off nightmares, with each member representing a different nightmare or fear. JiU represents the nightmare of being chased by a stranger (Diokophobia), SuA represents the nightmare of being tied (Merinthophobia), Siyeon represents the nightmare of being locked in a narrow space (Claustrophobia), Handong represents the nightmare of being observed (Scopophobia), Yoohyeon represents the nightmare of being lost in an unknown place (Mazeophobia), Dami represents the nightmare of pain or getting hurt (Agliophobia), and finally, Gahyeon represents the nightmare of falling from a high place (Basophobia). Dreamcatcher's compelling concept and lore make them stand out in the K-pop scene, captivating fans with their unique blend of music and storytelling.
