Release Date: July 20, 2026
Private Kang Seong-jae, who has nothing, finds a status window appearing before his eyes — and is reborn as the "Legendary Cook." The military cooking fantasy drama The Cook Becomes a Legend is now being published as an uncut author's edition script book.
Set against the backdrop of the military, this work masterfully blends cooking, fantasy, lighthearted comedy, and touching emotion — recording the highest viewership ratings in its time slot and the #1 spot for weekly paid subscribers on TVING, generating intense buzz with every episode.
This script book includes not only deleted scenes that were cut from broadcast, but also detailed stage directions that brought naturally flowing, ad-lib-like scenes to life, all presented in their original form.
Also included for the first time:
-
Writer's Pick Commentary — behind-the-scenes stories about the dialogue and scenes
- A special side story featuring Seongjae and Mina, newly written by writer Choi Ryong after the script book publication was confirmed — offering a glimpse into the bond the two shared from their high school days until age twenty-two
- Written interviews with writer Choi Ryong and actor Park Ji-hoon, conducted using fan-submitted questions from Booklog Company's ongoing "Ask the Writer and Actor Anything" event (running since 2021)
- Handwritten signatures and personal messages from the writer and cast: Park Ji-hoon, Lee Sang-yi, Yoon Kyung-ho, Lee Hong-nae, and Han Dong-hee
A knife instead of a gun, an apron instead of a belt — even in extreme situations, military cooks stand before the fire without fail, for someone's next meal.
What makes The Cook Becomes a Legend special is not simply that it's a fantasy drama set in the military. It portrays, with a warm perspective, how a single meal can become a force that connects people. As writer Choi Ryong shares in the Writer's Pick Commentary: "What could have twisted these young men so much? What if Seongjae had the power to heal even their hearts?"
The growth, friendship, camaraderie, and struggles of youth unfolding around Seongjae's cooking — within the confined space of a military kitchen — resonated across generations and genders, giving the work a deep and lasting emotional impact.
