"The Astronaut" is the first single album by Jin, released on October 28, 2022. The album achieved significant success, topping the iTunes Top Songs Charts in 104 countries and regions. Additionally, it debuted at #51 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking Jin's first solo entry on the chart. The single had the highest debut of any Korean solo song on the Hot 100 this decade and the third-highest of all time. Jin also became the first Korean solo artist to enter the top 10 of Billboard's Global 200 and Global 200 Excluding U.S.

Upon its release, the album sold an impressive 700,954 copies on its first day of sales on Hanteo. As of December 2022, "The Astronaut" has sold over 1,040,155 copies in South Korea alone, and it has been certified Million on Circle Chart and KMCA. The album has also been certified Gold on RIAJ. Notably, the single is part of Chapter 2 of the BTS Chronicle.
