SM Entertainment files new lawsuit against EXO-CBX to enforce contracts
Date: 13th June 2024
In the latest update to now month's long legal battle between EXO members and their agency, SM Entertainment has revealed plans to take legal action against EXO members Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin, collectively known as EXO-CBX.
The company announced, “We have filed a lawsuit with the Seoul Eastern District Court to enforce the terms of their contracts. We will proceed according to the law and established principles.”
The reports indicate that SM's complaint asserts that the company can no longer tolerate what they describe as unreasonable behavior from Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin, prompting them to seek legal enforcement of the contractual terms.
This development follows a June 10 press conference held by representatives of the three EXO members, where they alleged that SM Entertainment had ignored the negotiated terms that formed the basis of their agreement.
In response, SM Entertainment issued a detailed statement later that day, refuting these claims. (Full source in Korean here). They accused MC Mong and Cha Ga Won of unfairly inducing their artists and asserted that EXO-CBX members are benefiting from their association with EXO while neglecting their contractual obligations.
